What is a Risk Score, and which sources are checked during AML analysis?

Every cryptocurrency transaction received by Cometa.gg accounts is automatically checked by licensed AML analyzers. The system examines the blockchain to identify the origin of your funds.

The Risk Score is formed based on on-chain interactions: an analysis of your wallet's direct and indirect connections with various platforms, clusters, and resources. Depending on the reputation of these sources, the transaction is assigned a final risk percentage.

All sources on the blockchain are divided into three categories: reliable, suspicious, and high-risk.

High-risk sources

Association of funds with these markers most often results in the transaction being blocked and a full KYC verification request:

  • Dark market: Funds that have passed through illegal trading platforms hidden on the darknet.
  • Dark service: Payment or receipt of funds for illegal services on the dark web.
  • Mixer: Services specifically designed to obscure transaction traces and anonymize transactions (often used to launder stolen funds).
  • Scam: Cryptocurrency obtained through user fraud, pyramid schemes, and phishing.
  • Stolen coins: Coins obtained through hacking, exchange hacks, or theft from other people's wallets.
  • Sanctions: Addresses of organizations and individuals included on international sanctions lists (e.g., OFAC).
  • Ransom: Funds transferred to criminals as a result of cyberattacks (e.g., ransomware) or extortion.
  • Fraudulent exchanges: Platforms involved in fraud, money laundering, or market manipulation.
  • Illegal service: Any activity that directly violates international law.
  • Gambling: Funds associated with shady online casinos and illegal bookmakers.
  • Enforcement action: Addresses under active investigation by law enforcement or regulatory agencies.
  • Terrorism financing: No comment.
  • Child exploitation: Funds associated with the distribution of prohibited materials.

Suspicious Sources

The presence of these markers increases the overall Risk Score and may warrant manual review of the transaction:

  • Exchange unlicensed: Trading platforms operating without formal legal status and regulation.
  • P2P exchange unlicensed: Peer-to-peer exchange platforms that do not comply with user identification requirements.
  • ATMs: Funds deposited through offline terminals due to their traditionally weak identity verification procedures.
  • Liquidity pools: Smart contracts in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. These are not a violation in themselves, but are often used to obscure traces.

Trusted Sources

Transfers from these sources generate a low Risk Score and are processed automatically by the Cometa.gg service:

  • Exchange Licensed: Large cryptocurrency exchanges that strictly adhere to KYC/AML procedures.
  • Miner: Clean cryptocurrency received as a reward for mining blocks.
  • Wallet: Funds from clean, non-custodial wallets with no negative interaction history.
  • Marketplace: Funds associated with legal online trading and payment for goods.
  • P2P Exchange Licensed: Transactions on licensed platforms with mandatory user verification.
  • Payment: Transactions from official fiat and crypto payment gateways.
  • Seized Assets: Legal assets seized by law enforcement agencies and returned to circulation.
  • Other: Legitimate proceeds from airdrops, token sales, and other standard crypto market mechanisms.

The minimum withdrawal amount for rewards earned through the referral program is $3.

What is Destination tag (Memo, destination tag, memo, payment ID, message)?

Destination tag (or Memo, Message, ID) is a special code that is specified when sending some cryptocurrencies, such as:

  • XRP (Ripple)
    • \n
  • XLM (Stellar)
    • \n
  • EOS
    • \n
  • BNB (to exchange addresses)

This code allows the system to determine who exactly to credit the transfer to, especially if the wallet is shared (for example, at an exchange or exchanger).
If you do not specify the tag, the funds may not be credited automatically or may even be lost.
Always carefully check whether a tag is required when sending funds, and enter it strictly without errors.
